Sitting on the shores of Lake Tana, Bahar Dar provides a good base to visit places of interest on the islands of Lake Tana and the nearly Blue Nile falls. Thegrounds are pleasant and the The bird life here is many and varied, including Pelicans sitting on rocks just offshore. Unfortunately, mosquitoes are abundant here as well.

Lake Tana: is the largest lake in Ethiopia and is also the source of the Blue Nile river which runs in the great Nile River. On the Lake are more than 30 islands, 20 of these have historical churches or monasteries on them.

Farming: There are hundreds of farms along Lake Tana, and usually farmers use boats and wooden rafts to transport items (such as rice, wheat, cattle, and hay between locations on the Lake.

Fishing: Almost everyone who lives on the Lake would have done some fishing at one time in their lives or another,and for some of them fishing is a main source of income and wealth. Each year thousands of tones of fishes are caught.
